Irish-Medium Education

An Foras Pátrúnachta, founded in 1993, is the largest patron of Irish-medium schools in Ireland at both primary and secondary level. There are over 70 schools under their patronage, of which we are one.

An Foras Pátrúnachta is a patron of Irish-medium schools that have a choice of a Catholic, Multidenominational and Interdenominational (Catholic / Protestant) ethos. They are also a recognised management body in education & aim to grow the number of Irish-medium schools so that any parent who would choose Irish-medium education can access it.

The vision of An Foras Pátrúnachta is to develop, strengthen and promote education through the medium of Irish throughout the country. An Foras Pátrúnachta is recognized by the Department of Education and Science as a patronage system which is acceptable and appropriate for first and second level schools.

Fast facts;

  • 44% of Gaelscoileanna are under An Foras Pátrúnachta patronage already

  • 15,000 pupils across 70 schools are under their patronage

  • A quarter of our schools are multidenominational in comparison to 5% nationally

  • Our Irish-medium ethos has a healthy ethic & cultural mix with almost 10% of pupils coming from non-Irish backgrounds (on par with the national average!). Non-Irish and non-Irish speaking parents are embraced and supported as part of our mission.
